PAID Sharing Invitation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Artists

Icarus Theatre Collective will be hosting a sharing for their production of Eugene Ionesco’s THE LESSON, which will be performing for a 4 week run at Southwark Playhouse this summer.

Working with Deaf video designer Ben Glover, our production of this classic text sees us using integrated Creative Captioning projection to increase accessibility for Deaf and hard of hearing audiences, whilst also ensuring the captions are artistically exciting.

We are looking for Deaf and hard of hearing creatives working in theatre (in whatever medium) to join our rehearsal process in observing and discussing the effectiveness of the integrated Creative Captioning projection.

To cover your time, we can offer an honorarium of £50 per person per sharing.

There will be BSL interpretation to cover any feedback and discussion.

Dates: Friday 3rd June or Wednesday 15th June

Time: 2:30pm - 5:30pm

Location: Southwark Playhouse, London

Deadline: Midnight on Wednesday 25th May.

If you're interested in attending, please email ciara@icarustheatre.co.uk with a couple sentences about what the importance of these conversations is to you, your creative medium, and which sharing dates you’re available for. (Although we have 2 sharings available, you will only be allocated a place on one).

This is a first come, first served opportunity, with limited spaces available, so get in touch soon for a good chance to secure your place!

We will be operating the sharing as a Covid secure process: checking temperatures on entry, requiring masks, ensuring social distancing, and all our artists will have taken an LFT Covid test in the morning.

PAID Sharing Invitation for Black Artists

Icarus Theatre Collective will be hosting a sharing for their production of Eugene Ionesco’s THE LESSON, which will be performing for a 4 week run at Southwark Playhouse this summer. In this absurdist piece on fascism and power, a mild-mannered professor takes on a new pupil and swiftly descends into tyranny, becoming bent on her destruction.

We are looking for black creatives working in theatre (in whatever medium) to join our rehearsal process in observing and discussing the racial politics of the fascist professor being played by a black man.

To cover your time, we can offer an honorarium of £50 per person.

Date: Thursday 2nd June 2022

Time: 2:30pm - 5:30pm
